Kohli set to play 100th T20I against Pakistan on August 28

Kohli's 100th T20I

India has added struggling star batsman Virat Kohli to their T20 team for the Asia Cup, which kicks off later this month against archrivals Pakistan.

The development means that Kohli will face Pakistan again on August 28.

Kohli, 33, was rested for the West Indies tour and has not made a century in any format since 2019. He was replaced as all-format captain by Rohit Sharma last year.

Vice-captain K.L. Rahul also returns for the tournament, which runs from August 27 to September 11, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

K.L. Rahul missed all of India’s matches since the end of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in May due to illness.

Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, though, was ruled out due to injury, according to national selectors, who named a strong 15-man roster.

Bumrah is undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore after being diagnosed with back spasms.

Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, and Deepak Chahar were picked as standbys for the Asia Cup squad.

The Asia Cup was previously played in the 50-over format, but will now be played in the Twenty20 format.

Defenders of the title India have won the trophy seven times, making them the most successful team.

On August 28, India will play Pakistan in their opening encounter in the six-team competition, hoping to avenge their humiliation in the T20 World Cup last year.
