Pakistan’s premier fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has been ruled out of the forthcoming Asia Cup T20 2022 due to a knee injury.

As per sources, Shaheen who missed the first two ODIs against the Netherlands has failed to recover and will most likely miss the Asia Cup T20 due to the same reason.

Shaheen is yet to recover from the knee injury he sustained during the recently concluded Test series against Sri Lanka, which Pakistan leveled by 1-1.

Afridi suffered a knee injury during a practice session for the second and final Test and was ruled out of the final game, in which Pakistan lost by 246 runs.

Although he was named in the initial squad for the regional tournament, sources close to the team management say the premier fast bowler is not fully fit yet. Reports suggest that he is unlikely to recover before the Asia Cup T20 2022, which starts on August 27.

In his absence, raw paceman Naseem Shah is most likely to be included in the squad, who has put up an impressive show against the Netherlands

Note that the Pakistan cricket team is currently in the Netherlands for a three-match ODI series, which they lead by 2-0. The Greenshirts will depart for Dubai from Rotterdam on Monday.

The Green Shirts will face arch-rivals India on August 28.
