Covid-positive Dockrell plays against Sri Lanka

Ireland batter George Dockrell took the field against Sri Lanka during Sunday’s Super 12 encounter despite testing positive for Covid-19.

“Cricket Ireland informed the 30-year-old was identified as “potentially positive” for Covid-19,” the International Cricket Council said in a statement.

The ICC, however, added that Ireland’s move was according to the law, as the current ICC regulations do not stop a Covid-positive player from taking the field of training with teammates as long as they travel separately from the squad.

According to Cricket Ireland, Dockrell, who scored 14 runs against Sri Lanka on Sunday, had mild symptoms.

“We’ll cautiously manage his movements as Ireland travel to Melbourne for their next match against Afghanistan on October 28.
